Everton, MO: Hulston Mill Civil War Days

The Dade County Historical Society will host Hulston Mill Civil War Days at historic Hulston Mill Park near Everton, MO, October 18-20. This year’s event was postponed from its original June 9-10 date due to flooding at the event site. The park is the location of a restored pre-Civil War grist mill.

Events run from 9 a.m. Saturday till the ball closes around 8 p.m. and from 9 a.m. Sunday until the end of the battle at about 2:30 p.m.

The mill building and all its equipment were rescued from the bank of the Sac River before Stockton Lake was impounded; it was disassembled and moved to the park a short distance from its original location. Currently powered by a small engine, the mill actually grinds grist into flour, which the society sells as a fund-raiser.

Reenactments of a Raid on Hulston Mill and also a larger battle are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. The Enactment of General Order 11, the Oath of Allegiance, and other historical vignettes will also be presented during the weekend. The Back Porch Players of Nixa, MO, will provide period music throughout the weekend and also for an outdoor period ball on Saturday evening. Period sutlers and modern crafters will also participate. Children will have a playground and the opportunity to join the Hulston Mill Sprouts and drill just like the adults.
