Field Musicians Wanted!

An Excellent Opportunity for the Right Young Men!

Field musicians with the Frontier Brigade at Franklin, TN, 2004

Field musicians, including a Turner bugler, march at the head of the Frontier Brigade at the reenactment of the Battle of Franklin, TN, in 2004.

Field musicians–buglers, fifers and drummers–were an integral part of the soldier’s life during the Civil War. The Turner Brigade is actively seeking musicians to enhance our portrayal of the Union military and replenish our ranks with new musicians. Buglers can serve in any of our companies, while drummers and fifers are needed in the infantry. At most reenactments, even large national events, boys as young as 12 years old can serve in the field if they are functioning musicians. For those who already have the basic musical skills, we can offer some assistance in learning the military calls. If you have the basic skills and would like to serve in an experienced Civil War reenacting unit as a field musician, please contact Randy Baehr.
