St. Louis, MO: St. Louis Civil War Ball
Joy Melcher’s CivilWarLady.net presented the 2nd Annual St. Louis Civil War Ball on Saturday, April 12, 2014, from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Mahler Ballroom, 4915 Washington Blvd., in the Central West End of St. Louis, MO. Dancemistress Deborah Hyland called the dances to music by the Esmeralda Quintet.
In 1860, Albert Mahler opened a dance academy in St. Louis at 3rd and Pine Streets near the present-day Arch. In 1907, Albert built a combined ballroom and family home on Washington Avenue. Thirty-six of the women who were chosen Veiled Prophet Queen have been dance pupils at the Mahler Ballroom. The hard rock maple dance floor is lovely, and there is a full balcony to observe dances on the floor below.
