Bloomfield, MO: “Occupy Bloomfield!” Living History at the Stars and Stripes Museum

The Stars and Stripes Military Newspaper Museum will host a Civil War living history event with the theme of “Occupy Bloomfield!” at the museum site in Bloomfield, MO, July 26-28, 2024.

Between the spring of 1861 through 1865, the area around Bloomfield, MO, was a hot bed of activity during the Civil War. There were more than likely soldiers camping on the museum’s grounds 160 years ago since it is located less than two miles from the Stoddard County Courthouse. Troops would have also patrolled the area, and skirmishes were fought that more than 20 times changed which army occupied Bloomfield.

The Museum celebrates the Stars and Stripes military newspaper’s first edition, published November 9, 1861, by Union troops after they took possession of the Bloomfield Herald Newspaper office.
