TELEGRAPHIC CONNECTION OF THE ATLANTIC AND PACIFIC.
The completion of telegraphic communication between St. Louis and San Francisco, was yesterday appropriately signalized by the transmission, from the Mayor of the Pacific city to the Mayor of St. Louis, of the following:
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 25, 1861.
San Francisco to St. Louis sends greetings, and congratulates her on the completion of the enterprize which connects the Pacific with the Atlantic. May the prosperity of both cities be increased thereby, and the projectors of this important work meet with honor and reward.

The above was received here at an early hour yesterday morning. His Honor, Mayor Taylor, at once responded as follows:
ST. LOUIS, Oct. 25, 1861.
To the Mayor of San Francisco:
St. Louis cordially reciprocates the congratulations of San Francisco, on the completion of the Pacific and Atlantic Telegraph line. All honor to the enterprise which conceived it and carried it out. May it be received, also, as a sign of reconciliation and peace, from one end of the continent to the other.

In ordinary times the occurrence of this significant event would attract far more attention than it can now receive. Its intrinsic importance is, however, not lessened by the fact that the country is convulsed with war, while the memorable event is the more suggestive on this account. We are reminded that the material progress of the age is uninterrupted by the devastations of the raging conflict. This progress tends still further to unite the extremes of the land, furnishing the guarantee that the ultimate and irrevocable destiny of all its parts is one and the same.
